1% Better is brought to you by Ken Yarmosh's:

Creating an offer is hard.

Launching and scaling that offer is even harder.

Building on decades of experience and work with clients like Lara Acosta, Nat Berman, Nausheen Chen, and Matt Barker—Ken Yarmosh has created Unstoppable Offers to be a game changer for your business.

What is it: Unstoppable Offers is a 5-week program for consultants, coaches, and founders where you'll launch your next best offer.

Each week, you’ll receive a set of principles and exercises to get clear on your offer, and start growing your business.

The next cohort kicks off September 3rd.

Join hundreds of Ken’s students scaling to $20k to $100k+ months with “unstoppable” offers. Apply today.

A story that shows it's never too late to succeed

One of my favorite stories to come out of the Olympics.

It got me thinking about other famous examples of people who succeeded in their field later in life:

Vera Wang entered fashion at 40.
Harlan Sanders founded KFC at 62.
Alan Rickman got his first film role at 46.
Bill Withers released his debut album at 33.
J.K. Rowling published "Harry Potter" at 32.
Toni Morrison published her first novel at 39.
Julia Child published her first cookbook at 50.
Samuel L. Jackson got his breakout role at 46.

Remember:
There's no one-size-fits-all timeline for success.

How to make rapid progress in any area of life

Sahil Bloom's 30-for-30 Approach:

Research shows that it takes roughly a month to build a new habit.

By using this method, you'll pretty much guarantee two things:

  1. You'll make surprisingly large progress on your goal
  2. You'll have built a new habit by the end of it

The most underrated social skill - How to listen like a therapist

Want people to remember you forever?

Build your listening skills.

I know, it doesn't sound exciting, but this is how you leave a lasting impact on people.

I'm a fan of Chris Williamson's Law of Inverse Charisma:

Rather than trying to make yourself seem interesting, focus on making other people feel interesting.

True charisma is making others feel charismatic.

What are your default rules for life? - Twitter thread

A few of my favorites from the thread:

  • "The first breakup should stick."
  • "Pee before you leave."
  • "Don’t trust anything about how you feel about your life after 9:00 pm."
  • "Judge people by how they treat staff like waiters and Uber drivers, not by how their boss talks about them."

A few of my own rules:

  1. Never sacrifice sleep for work.
  2. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
  3. Always get to the airport 2 hours early.
  4. Listen more than you speak.
  5. If you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it to yourself.

Reply to this email with your best default rule for life, and I'll give it a rating out of 10 (😉).

This made me tear up

I usually put a meme here, but today I want to get a bit more serious.

I was raised by a stepfather.

My biological dad left when I was young, and my stepdad came into the picture a few years later.

I know it wasn't easy for him to take on the responsibility of raising me and my sister, but he did it without hesitation.

Since that day, he has:

- Made countless sacrifices for our family.
- Supported us through every challenge.
- Loved us unconditionally.

If that's not a "dad", then I don't know what it.

My stepfather IS my dad, and I make sure to let him know that as often as possible.

If you have a stepparent in your life, show them some love today.
